OnePlus 13s Ditches Alert Slider For iPhone-Like ‘Plus Key’

OnePlus has confirmed that its iconic alert slider will be removed from upcoming models, including the soon-to-launch OnePlus 13s in India. In its place, the company is introducing a new customisable “Plus Key,” teased in a recent official preview. This change mirrors Apple’s move with the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action Button, suggesting that more smartphone brands are now exploring multi-functional side buttons to enhance device versatility.

The upcoming OnePlus 13s is set to launch in India soon, and the brand’s latest teaser highlights its new “Plus Key” with the tagline “one key to do them all.” This customisable button can be used to control ring settings, turn on the LED torch, enable DND mode, or launch voice assistants like ChatGPT or Gemini. While the concept of a multifunctional button isn’t entirely new, OnePlus appears to be replacing the physical alert slider—likely to make room for a larger battery—by offering a more modern, AI-ready alternative.

The OnePlus 13s is set to become the third device in the OnePlus 13 series, joining the existing 13R. OnePlus has confirmed that the 13s will be a flagship-grade phone, powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It will feature a 6.32-inch display, offering a compact yet powerful experience, and will be available in black and pink colour options, catering to a wider range of style preferences.

While full specifications remain under wraps, the teaser images suggest a flat design with a square-shaped dual rear camera module. A large battery with fast charging support is also expected. With growing excitement around its launch, the OnePlus 13s is anticipated to be priced around ₹50,000 in India, positioning it as a premium offering in the upper mid-range smartphone segment.

The OnePlus 13T, launched in China in April, features a 6.32-inch Full-HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It packs a 6,260mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging and has an IP65-rated build for dust and splash resistance. The phone boasts a triple rear camera setup, including a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP telephoto lens offering up to 2x optical and 20x digital zoom, along with a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies.
