Google Might Lay Off 30,000 Employees Due To AI; Report Offers Alarming Insights

In response to its recent strides in artificial intelligence, Google is gearing up for a significant restructuring of its extensive ad sales unit, consisting of 30,000 employees. This move comes on the heels of the company’s historic job cut earlier this year, which saw around 12,000 employees affected.

As per The Information’s report a lot of positions in the ad sales team are becoming unnecessary because Google has introduced new tools based on artificial intelligence. These tools can suggest and create effective ads for customers automatically, needing minimal input from employees.

In 2021, Google introduced its AI-driven campaign planner, Performance Max. However, during this year’s Google I/O event, the company decided to enhance the ad tool by incorporating generative AI capabilities. This addition simplifies the process of creating custom assets and scaling them with just a few clicks.

According to The Information’s report, more advertisers are now using Performance Max. This has resulted in a reduced need for specialized employees who focus on selling ads for specific Google services like YouTube, Search, Display, Discover, Gmail and Maps.

The internal announcement about the ad sales unit restructuring came from Sean Downey, Google’s president of the Americas and Global Partners, during a meeting last week. However, it was not clarified whether this reorganization would result in additional job cuts, as per the report
