Meta’s Chief AI Scientist, Yann Andre LeCun, on his current India visit, shared nuggets of wisdom for the twenty-year-olds who are paranoid over artificial intelligence stealing jobs. The 64-year-old French-American computer scientist who is one of the main creators of DjVu image compression technology is often regarded as one of the three ‘Godfathers of AI and Deep Learning’ along with Nobel laureate Geofrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio. The trio shared the 2018 Turing Award. In his ongoing India tour, Yann has visited IIT Madras. He shared delightful selfies from his visit to the premier Indian institution and the AI Summit in Bengaluru. In an exclusive interview with Money Control, the distinguished professor stated that for a twenty-year-old, it is pertinent that they pick up and

Further in the interview, Yann Lecun remarked that AI is indeed displacing jobs but also transforming it by making it more productive for people. Unlike other skeptics, LeCun is optimistic that AI won’t make jobs disappear; however, he also cautioned that due to the nature of AI, it is hard to predict what would be the hottest job in a decade. He further remarked that society in general needs human-like AI systems to assist in our daily lives and solve problems for us. The AI scientist emphatically stated that humans are going to be AI staff’s boss and will tell them what problem to solve.
