A Dubai-based doctor was surprised to find the accuracy of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in diagnosing diseases. Taking to Instagram, pulmonologist Dr. Mohammad Fawzi Katranji revealed how it took AI just a few seconds to find pneumonia after analysing an X-ray, while it took him 20 years to gain that knowledge.
In the video, Dr. Katranji revealed that he used an AI tool to check if the AI could make the same diagnosis as him. His worst fear, of losing his job, came true shortly after.
“So I am about to lose my job. This is scary because I developed a skill over 20 years, which lets me look at an X-ray and point to pneumonia,” he says in the video. “But then comes AI and they pick it up in a second.”

“Now you don’t need professional eyes looking at X-rays. You just need Artificial Intelligence,” he further said joking, “I am going to be applying to McDonald’s soon and I hope they have some openings.”
But in another video, he praised the AI for catching details he missed during his analysis. “I have to admit, AI helped find the diagnosis here,” he wrote.
Dr. Katranji’s beliefs of losing jobs to AI aligns with those of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates who said technology will soon make doctors obsolete. “It’s very profound and even a little bit scary — because it’s happening very quickly, and there is no upper bound,” Gates said during his February appearance at Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show. He also believes that AI will soon make expert-level services widely available and accessible for free.
