iOS 18, Apple’s forthcoming operating software, is slated for unveiling at the annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2024 in June.
In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman hinted at a redesigned Home Screen, promising increased customisation without divulging specific details. Rumoured features for iOS 18 include new generative AI capabilities for Siri and various apps, RCS support in the Messages app for enhanced messaging across iPhones and Android devices, and design alterations.
For the first time on an iPhone, iOS 18 is expected to allow users to freely move icons across the screen and create gaps between them. While it may not match the AI advancements of the Galaxy S24 series, iOS 18 is anticipated to integrate AI into several native apps such as Notes, Gallery, Messages, and Apple Music, with Siri poised for a significant overhaul.
Reportedly, Apple is in talks with Google for the integration of Gemini AI into iPhones to power upcoming features. Google’s Gemini nano, a mini generative AI model, could run natively on smartphones, potentially enhancing user experience.
Amid the ongoing Department of Justice (DoJ) antitrust suit, Apple might consider enabling features like app sideloading, third-party payment gateways, and improved iMessage integration for enhanced cross-compatibility.
