TW: mention of suicide, trauma, and depression

An 18 year old lad in Kamothe (Navi Mumbai) unalived themselves allegedly due to their father not being able to or rather refused (per some media reports) to fulfill their wish. The demanding youngster had earlier requested his father, a cement businessman, to purchase an iPhone worth Rs 1.5 lakh. However, the father bought him a budget Vivo handset. Upset over the ordeal, the teen unalived themselves at their residence. The police have registered a case of accidental death. The cops also reported that the deceased dropped out of school and was in corrupt company, involving drugs.

Per a National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, India has seen a surge in suicide over the years, with 12.4 per 1,00,000. In 2022 alone, 1.71 lakh people committed suicide in India, which is the largest public health crisis in the nation running on pakodanomics. The aforementioned suicide rate is the highest ever recorded in India. A few days ago, a 60-year-old father and his 30-year-old son committed suicide by lying down on a local train’s track in Mumbai. A large number of victims battle prolonged depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and plethora of mental health, that is usually undiagnosed. Per the NCRB report, in 2021, a total of 10,720 adolescents below 18 years of age died by suicide. It is also the 4th leading cause of death among the age group of 15–19 years. 35% of the recorded suicides are committed by the age group between 15 and 24 years old.
